Learn tango as it's danced in Buenos Aires, with a world finalist who has taught San Diego to embrace it for over twenty years.
Colette Hebert has made her home at the San Diego Dance Theater. Under her guidance, students from age 6 to 75 navigate intricate tango steps locked in close embrace.
A Montreal native fluent in English, French, and Spanish, Colette studied in Buenos Aires under classical tango masters including Rodolfo and Maria Cieri and Mingo Pugliese. With her former partner Richard Council she won the 2003 IDO United States Argentine Tango Championship, and in 2005 was a Tango Salon finalist at the World Championships in Buenos Aires, the ultimate test for the finest tangueros in the world. It is rare for a "gringa" to earn the respect of the inner circle of Argentine-born tango masters, who consider her one of their own.
Colette and Richard were featured in The Heart of Tango, a documentary by filmmaker Johnny Robinson exploring the soul of the dance.
"She is simply amazing," says Jean Isaacs, Artistic Director of the San Diego Dance Theater. "It takes much more than two to tango, and Colette can teach you what it takes."
